I'm Dave Baker.  For nearly 20 years, I've tackled the difficult task of forecasting the weather, and more importantly convincing you that what I say will actually happen.  There are thousands out there that have depended on me in times of calm weather and during the emergencies.  You'll never know how much I appreciate your trust.  I know that Weather people have been the butt of jokes for centuries, but obviously you all come back for more...even when I'm wrong.  It's not easy forecasting the weather.  It's not an exact science.  Although we know a lot about what's going on in our atmosphere these days, there's still a lot we have to learn.  It's exciting to see the changes from day to day, and the long term changes from year to year.  In my case, it's now becoming decade to decade!

My favorite weather challenge is hurricane forecasting.  Which is why I live on the Gulf Coast in south Louisiana.  There's no better place to view the ultimate power of Mother Nature first hand.  There's no better place to view the beauty and gentleness of the weather we receive when no hurricanes are around!

Especially after the 2005 season that brought us Katrina and Rita, some wonder why I stay in harms way.  Because my home is here.  Because I love it here.  Because my family loves it here.  Because my job is here.  Because South Louisiana is the prime location of my core studies.  Do I like leaving my home and moving my family out of harms way?  Of course not.  Do I like the other 364 or so days where I get to stay?  Absolutely.

I hope you enjoy this site.  Feel free to browse the pictures and videos.  I hope you will check this site often when severe weather or hurricanes threaten our way of life.  I hope you will use the weather links to better understand how weather works, and how it affects this beautiful state.  More importantly, I hope you learn something here, and give that knowledge to others so they can make the important decisions to protect their property and the lives of their families.
